What to Be Grateful for on World Gratitude Day (Sept. 21)
February 1, 2019 | By Louis Tully
It’s World Gratitude Day and it’s time to open up your mind to all the things you have to be grateful for this year.
We all have things to be grateful for, both big and small, but it's easy to lose sight of them in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. That's why it's nice to give ourselves opportunities to show our gratitude for all we have.
As you begin to reflect on all the things you have to be thankful for, keep these five things in mind as you pause to appreciate on all the good things in your life this World Gratitude Day.
Even though we hate to admit it, we sometimes take our loved ones for granted, as we do many other things in life. We often make ourselves too busy to recognize just how big a role our family plays in our lives.
So, for this year’s World Gratitude Day, take a moment to reflect on your family and what they really mean to you.
Make a few calls to relatives you haven’t heard from in a while and see what they’ve been up to. By reaching out, you’ll gain a much bigger appreciation for your family and the deep connection you share.
We live in an age where we as a society have become tremendously connected and disconnected at the same time. Social media has made staying in touch with each other and keeping tabs on what everyone is up to as simple a few clicks or taps of a screen. But we get so caught up on checking each other’s posts and statuses that we forget how to stay connected on a much more personal level.
Take this day as an opportunity to check in on the people you follow and get a little one on one time in with them. You’ll have the chance to see how they’re actually doing and they’ll appreciate the fact that you took the time to call them simply to catch up. In the end, you’ll gain a much bigger appreciation for them and them for you.
One thing that we probably forget to be thankful for the most is the people that make up our community.
Your community is comprised of all the people around you: the barista working at your local coffee shop, the waiter taking your order, the police officer making sure the streets are safe, and everyone you meet in between. We all play an important role that ultimately makes our community a special and unique place to call home.
What if you went out of your way to let these people know that you appreciate them?
It never hurts to treat yourself at certain times of the year and World Gratitude Day is no exception. Above all else, you need to be sure you’re thankful for number one, yourself.
If you can’t be thankful for your own well-being, how could you be appreciative of someone or something else?
Take this day to go out and give yourself a treat simply as a reminder that you care about yourself. Believe it or not, this is the first step to showing gratitude.
Lastly, be grateful for your life. Your time and energy are two powerful tools you have at your disposal. Isn't it time you used them to their full potential?
Not happy with where you are? Give your life a makeover – it's a great way to appreciate the opportunity to improve. Look back on how you’ve been living your life for the past few years and find ways that you can do even better next year.
If you’re finding yourself looking for a “title loan near me” online, it may be time to reevaluate your finances.
If you can’t remember the last time you’ve reached out to a loved one, maybe you could try to reconnect.
If you’re always chasing after more and more material goods, maybe it’s time to be thankful for the things you already have.
Examine the different aspects of your life where appreciation is not given and give special care to make positive changes in these areas.
